According to a report in the New York Daily News, Yankees DH Jason Giambi failed a test for amphetamines during the past year. Giambi has yet to comment on this report, and the paper did not cite any sources in it's article, so until some kind of official confirmation comes along, I'm taking this one with a huge grain of salt.

What would the punishment be with the drug policy. Isn't it 50 games, or is that just steroids??

As Lefty Said, the NYDN did not cite any sources. What they're going on is Giambi's own words last week in the USA Today story that he's being tested more than most guys. They put 2 and 2 together and figure he msut have tested positive for amphetamines.

A first positive amphetamines test is not made public and the only punishment is the player is forced to undergo more frequent testing (I think it's something like six extra tests over a certain period).

A second positive test leads to a 25 game suspension.

Remember earlier this year when the NYDN reported Bonds failed an amphetamines test last season.

Can't confirm, but it wouldn't surprise me. I recall hearing that they wanted to talk to him about his "everyone should apologize" comments.

Confessed to what? Using "stuff"? His confessions are more comical than anything else because he never says what he's confessing to!

Just found an article that confirms that Giambi did indeed meet with the comissioner's office yesterday.

NEW YORK (AP) -- On the same day a report alleged he failed an amphetamines test, Jason Giambi met with lawyers from the baseball commissioner's office Wednesday to discuss his recent comments on steroids.

"The commissioner requested that Jason come in in response to the USA Today piece. Jason was interviewed this morning," union general counsel Michael Weiner said.

He was not interviewed about the amphetamine report, which appeared in the Daily News. The paper said he flunked the test within the last year.

Asked about the report at Yankee Stadium, Giambi said: "I can't give you an accurate explanation."

Asked about the meeting, he said, "I hope it went smooth. It was definitely a willingness on both sides."

Giambi said no followup session has been scheduled. The meeting, at baseball's main office, lasted less than an hour.

"It's more or less now wait and see," he said.

A willingness on both sides? What the heck does Giambi mean by that? Did he actually talk them into issuing an apology?

LOL lsc...those hearings were nothing short of a joke. McGwire pleading the fifth and "not wanting to talk about the past" and then Sammy Sosa basically forgets the english language. Curt Schilling talks himself into a blatlant lie, giving further proof of why most MLBers can't stand the guy. Just one big freak show lol. It was actually great TV...which is exactly what was wrong with the idea in the first place.

Dunno about Empire but I didn't watch that but did see the highlights on the evening news. That is pretty much all the MEDIA produced" swill (truth) I can handle.
