It's only half about pitching...and half about giving the Yanks a buzz to keep fans in the seats and TV ratings up...that is where the 28 mil are really going to go.

Now that buzz will only keep up as long as Clemens delivers, so there's a lot of pressure on Roger this year. He's gotta perform.

The guy is a warrior...unless his arm falls off, there is no reason he can't out pitch the rest of the Yankee staff...

I tend to agree, with the caveat that age is eventually gonna catch up with him. Will it be this year? We'll see.

I feel like a early June start for me... He might have that same minor league tour like at the Astros, so we will see what he will do right now?

The only mound of help that is happening here is, Rogo is going home with a mound of cash. He even admitted that the money was a force in his decision. I don't wish him any bad luck but I really feel that there is a time when athletes have to forego the money for the legacy. So many superstars have gone into retirement with lousy stats and with fans recalling poor performances. I suppose at the same time he does really want to enter the HOF as a Yankee and he is hoping he can be their savior. Not real sure even Rogo in his prime could do it this year.

Well put. I didn't think of it that way. But you're right, players don't really realize when it's time to leave the game.

Cool Re: Yankees sign Roger Clemens

I'm probably the biggest Clemens Yankee fan alive. I can get my Yankees Clemens jersey out of the closet haveing said that here's what I think:

1) Sure it's a $28 million dollar contract but it's pro-rated. So It's really $20 million (not that it's chump change but the Yankees aren't actually paying that much).

2) Let's remember, while Clemens was still outstanding by most standards as a Yankee his numbers were nothiing like they were in the NL where the lineups are so much weaker. And now he's going to be 45 in August.

3) Clemens for the most part is a 6 inning pitcher, so that's something you have to be careful of.

4) On the positive side, all he has to do is backup Ortiz once, with a 95 MPH heater, and the $20 million will be worth it.

Isn't the Yankee Relievers on record pace already?...they have like 5 guys projecting +90 games or something like that...I am sure they are not pleased with Rocket Roger...

Congrats on being the biggest Clemens fan alive. It's a good thing to have a player to follow.

1.) I guess I misunderstood the contract. I thought it was for 28 mil and that the Red Sox would have been 20 mil but for less pitching time.

2.) His best numbers were with the Red Sox and that will be a point of contention when it comes to the HOF. That is part of the reason he wants to be a winner for the Yanks. It will help him go in as a Yankee.

3.) The article I read, on MSN.COM (I think) said that he would become a 5 inning pitcher due to the strength of the AL line ups.

4.) When Ortiz cracks one off of him that 20 mil will again be proven a waste of money. (OK so I am a Sox fan)

You've got to be kidding me. This is far from the Mets signing Pedro. The Yanks will fill the seats regardless of whether Clemens is a Yankee or not.

This is a complete desperation move to try and pump some life into the teams pitching. We'll see though...when Clemens constantly goes 5 or 6 and the bullpen will continue to be taxed.

My God that is a lot of money. I agree they will fill the stands regardless.

Re: Yankees sign Roger Clemens

I can hear the machines printing the Clemens jerseys now. This is exactly what the Yanks needed, emotionally and talentwise. This is a kick in the keister for them and now I think they could take the wild card.
