Hughes injured during no-hitter

Things have just gone from bad to worse for the New York Yankees.

According to the Associated Press, "Yet another starting pitcher on the last-place New York Yankees got hurt Tuesday night. This one was working on a no-hitter in his second major league start... Phil Hughes carried his gem into the seventh inning before a hamstring injury cost him a chance to make history. The team's prized prospect is expected to miss four to six weeks, a sour end to an otherwise encouraging night for New York."

New York won the game, 10-1, but... another injury? During such a seemingly triumphant moment? Wow.

Cool Re: Hughes injured during no-hitter

As a Yankee fan, I was watching and starting to get nervous. It looked like he really had a chance and then: that was that.

Being a Red Sox fan you'd expect that we'd all be happy but I don't like seeing any player get hurt. These are the types of injuries that can destroy a career before it even gets started.

Re: Hughes injured during no-hitter

He's going to be out 4-6 weeks, but I imagine he'll be fine long-term. I just wonder what the psychological impact will be on the team. Everything's going well and then - BAM! - this happens and you feel snakebit all over again. Seems like this Yankee team can't buy a break this season.

Re: Hughes injured during no-hitter

Just when things were looking not so bad. We get Papelbon to blow a save to an awful hitting A's team and then this happens. At least Torre tried shaking things up, batting Abreu leadoff. Good to see Murcer back in the booth.

Especially because you'll want the players from the Yankees' roster in a few seasons.
