Cool A-Rod on Fire

He's hitting the "you-know-what" out of the ball. If he could only do this in October instead of April, he would sleep much better at night..

Re: A-Rod on Fire

He's playing great ball so far this year. It'll be interesting to see how long he can keep it up. By the way, I love what Mussina told the hoardes of reporters flocking to Rodriguez after last night's game: "C'mon! Six homers in seven games? He's supposed to do that... Just ask you guys."

That's a pretty funny line by Moose.

Thr guy could hit one into lake Eire from Yankee Stadium and all the rest of you would say, "Yeah but...the game wasn't on the line...yeah but it was not October...yeah but he did not do it while wearing his pin stripe shirt neatly tucked into his pants"...Dude, "Yeah but" gets old...give the devil his due...

Re: A-Rod on Fire

GDK, from all ive heard in the past few years A-Rod is being heralded as one of the best of all time

for this to be the case he has a much higher standard to live up to

to me its that plain and simple

Ah, Simon, the final authority on all things great...Pray tell, what is the standard for greatness?

Is it Mickey Mantle and Reggie Jackson, both of whom at one time held the lifetime record for striking out?...etc...They all come with weaknesses...maybe it was Herman Killebrew who could hit it a mile, but was slow as an ox around the bases?...maybe its a Billy Martin type, a great World Series hitter, crappy the rest of the way...or hey Jack Billingham, take a look at the man's World Series ERA...

give the guy his due...at his rate of homers, there will be no need to squabble over how many homers Bonds will end up with...

im not the final authority on all things great.....im my authority for what i consider great

i care to share my opinions here.......maybe some agree with me, maybe some dont........matters little to me

i think a big part of my job here is to not go with the flow......everyone has to break from the herd now and then.......or what fun would life be........i just break from the herd more often then others

as for A-Rod and his greatness.......im a Red Sox fan and he has always been the enemy...now im not saying i cant see a great player past my goggles clouded by my love for my teams...but my fan-hood may skew my vision a little

big Papi won more then 5 games last season if memory serves me with walk-off HRs.....how many times has A-Rod done it this year and we refer to his season as great already.....did Papi's season last year elevate him to greatness ?

Darn it, and here I thought you go and take the bait and claim greatness...pooh...

In my book Papi is great...might need a few more numbers for the Hall, but perhaps the best clutcher around these days...

I think you are right in one regards, were A-Rod a Sox, your view would change a bit...and if they traded him to the Sox you'd be giddy...

As for your job here… I always thought it was simply to end up on the opposite end of my opinion…

yeah id love to have A-Rod on the Sox, but its a little different......we would put him back at SS and not expect him to be clutch....he could hit 5th and protect Manny

yeah it seems like you see things wrong an awful lot

Re: A-Rod on Fire

The media will continue to ridicule Rodriguez as an objection of his greatness. After meeting numerous media personalities, I've learned that journalists look for controversial stories and turn against them. The people aren't out there to read the same dreamy, dream stories in the tabloids. They don't want to read how good someone is on a day-to-day basis, so the media builds up an athlete and then destroys him later in their career.

EX: Pete Rose, Tim Hardaway .recently.

GDK yeah these are solid stats, but the thing is, his play in october is just too ugly to stop saying "yea but". Show up in October kid, but he has that season flare like Ryne Sandberg, and he made the HOF.

Yeah, lets jsut throw out that regular season when considering the Hall of Fame there...which by the way seems to be a bigger criteria from what I can tell then play in October...Sandberg was a Cub, for him to show up in October for the most part would have taken a team effort...and he seldom had a team...he did however, have a great glove, speed and power (40 homers at 2nd base at a time that 40 meant something)...mutliple All-Stars and an MVP to his name...October neve rmattered in his case...

You all sound like the kinda crowd that stuck poor Roger Maris with an astrick, cause he had the never to play in a 162 game season...

Is A_rod the best of hitters in October...hope...does he deserve a "Yeah but" with every swing?...hardly

Re: A-Rod on Fire

G-G-GDK

your beloved A-Rod is a Hall of Famer, im not disputing that

i just wish people wouldnt rush to judgement .......his body of work to date shows that he pukes when it counts.......yes he has had an outstanding start to this season........but lets give it time before we declare he has totally changed his ways eh ?

do i detect a slight man-crush ?
