Cool Yankees Trivia

In the mid to late 80's during the peak of the Yankees ineptitude as a team, there was a famous play that symbolized their incompetence:

During a base running screw up, 2 Yankees were tagged out at home plate by Carlton Fisk, basically at the same time, one right after the other in a split second. Who were those Yankees? This is not easy. But it's gettable.

Re: Yankees Trivia

The one you are looking for is Bobby Meacham and Dale Berra. August 4, 1985. And the ball was hit by Ricky Henderson.

But it also happened more recently:

On 9/28/2000 the Yankees played the Devil Rays at Tampa Bay. In the top of the 2nd inning David Justice flied out to Gerald Williams; Jose Canseco walked. Tino Martinez hit a double to center field. The ball was fielded by Gerald Williams who threw to F. Martinez who relayed it to Mike DiFelice, who tagged Jose Canseco at the plate. DiFelice then tagged Tino Martinez who was running right behind Canseco. Mike DiFelice tagged both runners out at the plate to keep the score tied at zero.

Re: Yankees Trivia

Who is the only baseball player to win World Series rings with both the Yankees and the Red sox?

Re: Yankees Trivia

Yeah, you're right...

According to Michael Kay and Ken Singleton (YES network commentators), Mendoza is the only player to win a world series ring with both the Sox and Yanks.

Re: Yankees Trivia

Hey, i'll jump in here...

Interesting pair of trivia questions about the Yankees, but probably pretty easy....

In whose honor is Yankees #8 retired?

In whose honor is Yankees #42 retired?

Cheers, all!

Re: Yankees Trivia

Softballs for the Legend! How long did that take you in real time, from when you woke the computer up in the morning?

You're the man.

Cheers.

Re: Yankees Trivia

#42 will be "re-retired" in honor of Mariano Rivera!

Re: Yankees Trivia

Jeter's definitely will be retired, but i think we're all assuming he'll stick around for a bit longer.

Next up might be Petitte's or even Clemens (who claims he won't be using the BoSox logo on his Hall of Fame plaque...)

Clemens?...hmmm...maybe...but Petitte?...I don't think he's going to make it...he is not Wall worthy...good pitcher and all...but I don't see him on that famed wall...

Re: Andry Pettite

Sorry for the terse answer; have to work.

Lifetime for Yanks -- 149-78 plus 18-6 postseason. ERA in both cases around 4.00, a little high, but o the glory days of the 1990s...

Wiz you are golden my man...but the record is more a product of the team than Andy's doing...I really think he falls short of a wall that has the likes of Ruth, gehrig and Joe Dimaggio.
