According to the Associated Press, "Yankees right fielder Bobby Abreu is expected to miss at least two weeks after straining his right oblique during batting practice Monday, an injury general manager Brian Cashman and manager Joe Torre said won't cause the team to make a new push for Bernie Williams to report." So who's currently scheduled to back up Abreu, should he miss game time with this injury or get dinged up again?

The Yankees seem to get hit with the injury bug year after year. They have such a great team, but they get injuries at the wrong time.

I don't think this will be anything major. If anything he'll start playing in spring training in mid march and have a couple of weeks to get his swing ready for the regular season.

He's in the big leagues. He'll do fine, and if not...Steinbrenner will say, "Bye, Bye" and put him on the next flight out.

I doubt that this is anything serious... Abreu will be fine come April 2nd.

You don't need Abreu for the dingers though. With guys like A-Rod, Giambi, Posada, Matsui, and then Jeter, Damon, Cano....as long as he keeps his strikeouts down and gets on base, he'll produce a hell of a lot of runs.

Is he considered a fast runner? I'm sure that he has excellent instincts, but for speed I always thought he lacked.
