Arod on relationship with jeter

ESPN.com - MLB/SPRING2007 - A-Rod says his friendship with Jeter has cooled

its intresting to see. Arod had been so closed from the media, and now he seems to be giving honest answers, think this can release some pressure from this guy. Actually its been an intresting week with mussinas rips on pavano too. How do you guys see these two interviews effectign the yanks this year

Re: Arod on relationship with jeter

During the offseason, former Yankee Darryl Strawberry said Jeter needs to "embrace" Rodriguez. A-Rod said he didn't feel Jeter needed to support him more.

Strawberry giving advice???...Ah...yeah...shouldn't he fix his own life first?

Teammates don't have to like each other. It'd be nice, but it's not like it's what will keep them from a World Series title.

Re: Arod on relationship with jeter

What is Jeter supposed to do, put on an A-Rod mask and bat for him in a big spot? Could you imagine Roger Maris complaining that Mantle did not support him enough? I pray that he leaves after this season. He will not hit in the clutch again, that's a certainty. It's just not going to happen.

it just seems everyone coulding yell about isiah anymore so they moved on to the next biggest freak show arod lol. I just dont get how the personal life of a 3rd basemen and a ss factor into anything. And dark knight, its different then football. Baseball is the most indiviual filled team sport, theres not much team work thats needed.

Give me a break...it ain't tennis...and TO performs on the field as anyone else...the beef is how he acts on the sidelines or locker room...what's the difference between him and say A-Rod/jeter?...none...

Re: Arod on relationship with jeter

the differenc is arod doesnt have to be on the same page as jeter, where to has to be on the same page with his qb or he aint getting the ball. Now if you wanted to argue about a pitcher and catcher combo id by into that, but there is very little team in baseball, you walk to the plate you smack the ball and you run, when your in the infield you catch the ball and throw it,

On a football team, a play doesn't work unless everyone does his job correctly -- meaning that communication between the different positions needs to be excellent. Linemen need to work well with each other, centers with QBs, QBs with WRs, and so on. Then again, in baseball, pitchers and catchers need to be on the same page, as does the entire infield for DP balls, and on offense when you're playing smallball, hit-and-run, bunting to advance the runner, etc. There is forced cooperation in each sport, but it isn't as vital to baseball success as it is in football. That said, nowhere in this forced cooperation idea is there the notion of guys HAVING to like each other. They just need to be able to play together, and if that means putting differences aside to do a job, so be it.

Damn, I hope this doesn't sound like I'm validating T.O. because I'm not. Still can't stand the guy. But I guess I don't have to like the way he goes about doing his job as long as he puts up results. Of course, that's the issue with guys like A-Rod and TO right now, isn't it -- are they doing their jobs effectively? With A-Rod's lousy postseason numbers and Owens league-leading dropped passes, one has to wonder.

Which are still better numbers than most of the league and part of the reason they are in the post season to begin with...lets be fair here.

TO more than A-Rod. The Yankees would be in the playoffs with someone else at 3B -- they did it with Boone and Venture before hand, and I'm sure they'll do it with someone else after Rodriguez bolts next year. He's not all that important to New York's success.

But lefty you could say that for any Yankee...A-Rod is still a part of the reason they get into the playoffs...

You could say, Gotham Dark Knight.

He is actually more of insurance.

If I was in this position, I would definitely become friends with someone of his salary.

I heard it's all over some girl that A-Rod is with used to be with Jeter, and A-Rod stole her from him.
