February 16, 2007 -- TAMPA - Carl Pavano says his cranky body is rehabilitated, but there is additional work required on the pitcher's head and mouth.

Two days after Joe Torre said Pavano had a "sizable'' amount of work to do in repairing his clubhouse image and minutes before Mike Mussina said yesterday, "He needs to show a lot of people he wants to pitch for us,'' and, "Not yet, I want to see if he wants to do it,'' when asked if Pavano gets the benefit of the doubt.

"I don't know how widespread it is but from another starting pitcher who hasn't been 100 percent all of the last two years, I know what it takes to pitch and I know when you can't go out and pitch," Mussina said. "Some times it is a fine line. After 15 years, I know where the line is."

Is this just writers looking for Spring Training stories or do the players really hate Pavano? Last year, Posada ripped him, too, saying: "We have more imorpotant things to worry about than Carl Pavano."

I'd be ticked off at the guy too if I were one of the vets. He got a huge deal after that World Series and has been hurt ever since. Who knows if he can still pitch?

Why pick on Pavano?...the guy had pitched over 200 innings only twice in an 8 year career and the Yankees threw money at him...so they gambled and lost...that the problem with big contracts...and why is Moose jumping in?...is he paying part of that $8 or $9 mil the Yankees are shelling out a year???...no?...then shut the hell up...it ain't your money and you aren't management.

For as weak as Mussina performed against the Tigers last year, he should pipe down. But it looks like the two made up.

TAMPA, Fla. -- Carl Pavano and Mike Mussina emerged from their closed-door meeting in the clubhouse attendants' office Friday afternoon with smiles -- and no bruises or black eyes.

They spent 11 minutes hashing out their differences, and it seemed as if their conversation went remarkably smoothly. Mussina said he apologized to Pavano for ripping him to reporters instead of to his face, and Pavano told him he understands his frustration.

Hold on Mussina pitched badly? If I'm not mistaken we only lost by 1 run.
