Bernie Williams leaving Yankees

According to the Associated Press, "Bernie Williams plans to decline the New York Yankees' offer to attend spring training on a minor league contract, the outfielder told reporters Friday night before playing guitar at a benefit concert... Williams added that he's been working out, but it doesn't appear as though he'll be playing with the Yankees this year." So does Williams play elsewhere next season, or does he hang 'em up?

I hope he takes the hint and hangs em up. He cannot possibly need the money. Get out with everything about your legacy still intact and then leave it up to guys and gals like us to debate whether he is Hall of Fame material.

As soon as someone dangles a multi-million dollar contract in front of him he'll be right there. According to sporting standards today you can never have too much money. Besides all that he might be the right fit for someone.

Cool Re: Bernie Williams leaving Yankees

I'm really surprised that there wasn't some major league team that would offer him a million. I mean, in limited time last year, he was pretty productive. Also, you would think that his history of being a winning player would be enough to attract some intersted.

There probably were. But Bernie has said countless times that the only team he'd ever play for is the Yankees period. If the Yankees didn't want him he'd retire.

He is one of the few athletes who purely live to play, and not to rake in millions.
