Yankees Very Interested in Clemens

Clemens' agent, Randy Hendricks, says that if the Rocket pitches, he probably wouldn't start his season until May or June.

Pettitte has played golf with Clemens in recent weeks. He wouldn't say exactly what his buddy told him, but he dropped a few hints.

"After speaking with him, it sounds like that he probably wants to try to pitch. It's amazing to me that he still wants to pitch, but he does," Pettitte said, laughing. "He's like he's 20. So he's just got an unbelievable amount of energy."

So it looks like the chances of the Rocket returning to the Bronx are pretty strong. What do you'all think? Will he make it back? And what kind of impact will he have on the team?

Re: Yankees Very Interested in Clemens

I wouldn't expect Andy, his very good friend, to say anything different. At some point in time Clemens' body will not do what his mind thinks it is capable of. I'm an old Red Sox fan but at his age I wouldn't want him on my team. Of course I'm an armchair, Monday morning coach ... so what do I know. If he plays again this year more power to him ... I just don't think he'll be worth whatever they pay him.

He's about the last thing we need in the Bronx. Is Pettite in love with Roger Clemens or what? Clemens is a five and six inning pitcher who, when up against it, walks off the mound with a "tweaked hamstring".

Re: Yankees Very Interested in Clemens

The Yankees are interested in Clemens, and so am I.

Welcome, Hero324.

SI wrote up how the Yankees report-card grade would be a:
B- without Clemens
A- with Clemens

Will Clemens make that much of an impact?

With Mr. "Disabled List" Carl Pavano on our starting rotation I am willing to take a huge shot with Clemens. I like Clemens and he could help us out in the long run.

Re: Yankees Very Interested in Clemens

Yeah very expensive but being expensive never seemed to stop the Yankees before. If he hadn't played on the Yankees before I'd say he was to risky but He was great on the Yankees when he was still a pitcher for the Yanks. He has some real good stuff left. And I just don't want Boston to get him. I mean I want Clemens but if he decided too sign back with Houston instead that would be fine. Whatever you can do too keep him from signing with the Red Sox.

Re: Yankees Very Interested in Clemens

Boston seems pretty set on Curt Schilling, who claims he will not sign with the Yanks regardless of any offer.

Roger Clemens played well everywhere.

You basically want to go back in the day, JoshYankeeFan? Well, if Clemens wants to win a final World Series ring he will should wear pinstripes in his last season.

Yes I really do. I think that's what every Yankee fan wants. I mean now year after year it's "Close but no cigar" Now I don't really mind that because at least the Yankees are getting to the playoffs. It would just be really nice if Clemens came back and got us a ring. And plus I'm really liking what our starting rotation can be come June. If Pavano got DFA'D and Igawa was a bullpen man we'd have a killer starting rotation imo. Mussina/Wang/ Pettitte/Hughes (If he's ready)/ Clemens/

Re: Yankees Very Interested in Clemens

Chien Ming Wang has been a surprising prospect, evolving into one of the best pitchers of the day.

I'm not quite sold on Igawa, since I haven't seen him on the mound.

Clemens would be a nice asset to the rotation, but due to his age, I would not expect more than 25 starts from him. I don't want to say that he would serve as an Alternate Starter, but he just won't be a primary part of their rotation.

Pettitte is not as good as he used to be, but he can still grab those Ws in New York.

I know they're not as good but basically they're our best bets without trading for some NL guy like Willis or Zambrano. I know Clemens won't be a primary part of their rotation. Hell, he's not even gonna pitch till about june no matter which team he's on.

I'm not sold on Igawa either. The Yankees took a chance with him. But I think he has about as much chance to be a great pitcher that Matsuzuka has.
