In a bit of sobering news around this time of year, Yankee legend and broadcaster Bobby Murcer is set to undergo brain surgery for a tumor today.

He complained of fatigue and constant headaches and that's when doctor's found the tumor.

Here's hoping all goes well and Murcer can make a speedy and complete recovery.

I like Booby Murcer...good player in the eraly 70's...never became the next mickey mantle...but they who has...I remember when he was a Cub and he promised a kid in the hospital a homer...he hit one and the announcers said it on TV...the kid's family was not trilled at all, cause it worried the kid...big fiasco...total side note...

The classiest of all Yankees. Say a prayer for him, he is a fine man and was a really solid player that had no chance to fill the shoes he had to fill.

When I was a kid, he was my idol. I even have a picture with him. I was heartbroken when he got dealt to SF. I hope he pulls through.

Former Yankees player Bobby Murcer watched the Independence Bowl from his Houston hospital bed after surgery to remove a brain tumor.

Murcer, now a Yankees broadcaster, was alert and joking with staff and family members Friday, a day after surgery at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
