Yankees Make Offer to Pettite?

MLB.com says the Yankees have given an offer to Andy Pettite in the form of a one year, $15 million deal. Pettite first has to decide if he wants to pitch another season and then will have to deal with whether or not he wants to stay home, in Houston or return to New York.

If Pettite decides to return to New York, it would be a huge signing for the Yanks. If for nothing else, just from a psychological standpoint. Saying enough of all the losing, they're focused on fighting through the end of October and for another title.

So, does Pettite retire? Or will he pitch in Houston or New York?

Re: Yankees Make Offer to Pettite?

Retiring should be out of the question. He is 34 years old. He is probably past his prime but still young enough to take home some wins. In the last 3 years with Houston he has 83 starts, 37 wins and 26 loses. While the singular stats show that his game is declining, his ERA stays about the same. I guess now it just depends on where he wants to be and how much he wants to stay in the game.

He will stay in the game for the money.

He will go to where the most money is.

Welcome back to New York!

15 million is easily worth more than what Pettitte can produce, but getting away with only giving him a 1 year deal might save them some cash in 08

It's about time. The Yankees have not been the same without him.

186-104 with a 3.81 lifetime ERA, 14-9 in the post-season. he will come back to new York for the money and a chance at over 200 wins. Remember, he is only 34 years old! Bring him back.

He will likely get 200 wins, but not a stop in the Hall of Fame.

Re: Yankees Make Offer to Pettite?

he reportdly accepted an offer of one year 16 mil with a player option in 08. Now with that said espn also said yesterday that coach rod signed a 6 year deal. so ill wait to the press conference on this one folks lol. If he did sing this a great move, i think its like the signing of shannahan for the rangers. its one year it cant hurt you in the long term. Plus i think he bring great playoff pasts to the clubhouse, and great leadership.

Re: Yankees Make Offer to Pettite?

I just have to laugh a bit at the fact that Pettite will likely get the same deal as Barry Bonds (only with the extra option).

Re: Yankees Make Offer to Pettite?

YES!!!!!

Yeah, I'm very excited.... Although the $16 million dollars is a lot, I think (or hope) he'll be worth it. He's got good stuff, he's not too old (like some Yankee pitchers), and he's a great Yankee.

Re: Yankees Make Offer to Pettite?

mvb here is my question is he worth 5 mil more then gil meche, or 2 mil more then jd drew i think so, so i do not think its to much. Prices across the board are up. i think it is due to the amount of revenue teams were suprised to make. i think the number was that mlb expected 4.5 bill across the board and they got 5.1 bil instead not a bad instead

$16M is a lot?

You are talking to the Dodgers fan who just experienced the contract signing of Jason Schmidt for over $45M for three years.
