Steinbrenner Predicts World Series Title

Check out this link about Steinbrenner predicting the Yanks to take the whole thing in 2006. Does anyone else think this is a VERY bold prediction considering their performance over the last couple of seasons...

What's he got to lose?

He can say things like that. He's the owner. He's not going to feel the pressure, his manager and his team is. And I gather that's how he wants it. He's basically saying that he has the best manager in the game, and he's spent the money to give that manager arguably the most talented group of individuals in the game. So essentially what he's saying is, "Joe Torre, you'd BETTER win it all."

Of course, doesn't George think the Yanks should win every year?

Sure he does. But shouldn't every owner expect their team to win every year?

Somehow, I doubt Kevin McClatchy does.

For a guy whose team hasn't done ANYTHING to address the issue of an aging and injury-prone starting rotation, Georgie is pretty confident.

Of course, we all know this is just a ploy to motivate his team. The Yankees will have to work hard just to win the division, much less the World Series.

Sure, it is just meant to motivate his team, but what makes him think that there are not other ball clubs that are also motivated. I feel that he should just let his team perform, and keep comments like this to himself. It just adds the ever growing dislike of the Yankees.

I love the organization and respect Steinbrenner, but enough is enough. They need to win another title to prove that they are still an elite team.

Steinbrenner is alot like me!

I was ice fishing on Saturday and caught a 37 inch long, 14 pound northern pike. After that you would think I would leave, but I stayed out in the cold for three more hours trying to catch more. As I read this thread, it reminded me that Steinbrenner is no different from many of us. One world title is great, two is better, and on and on. More than likely, Major League Baseball would not be what it is today if he had never been invovled in it. For all the dopey things he has done and will do, he wants to catch one more pike, just like me.

Re: Steinbrenner Predicts World Series Title

George Steinbrenner has changed the game of baseball. He is a go-getter and isn't afraid to defend his way of doing things. Steinbrenner is obsessed with being the best. Being the best is constantly on his mind and when asked if he thinks they are going to win, he of course says Yes! Winners see themselves winning and as mentioned in a previous post, they thrive on the pressure of others who think they can't. Steinbrenner wants the world against him all the time so that he has a formidable competitor, and I say, more power to him.

Re: Steinbrenner Predicts World Series Title

I definitely agree with you Pete. Steinbrenner is out to win as many titles as he can, just like the rest of us would be if put in his position.

He just catches a lot of heat because of his payroll. But hey, if it is not breaking the rules he can do whatever he pleases.

Steinbrenner predicting the Yankees to win the whole thing isn't news. Now, Steinbrenner predicting the Yankees will finish dead last in the AL East...now that's news!
