Yankees, Clemens and Pettitite Reunion?

The NY Post suggests the Yankees should and might make it happen. The thinking around baseball was Roger Clemens would return to Boston for his final season but after they spend all the money on Matsuzaka, they won't have much left over for The Rocket. In that case, Joel Sherman suggests the Yankees should sign both Clemens and Pettite (who is thinking about retirement) and if need be, have both start their seasons in May or June.

I'm doubting this only because Clemens has it made in Houston. He's King there, while in New York, you have to believe he wouldn't have all those extra little luxuries such as staying home on road trips.

Re: Yankees, Clemens and Pettitite Reunion?

I'd LOVE to see this happen, but totally disagree with the idea of having both players start in June or July. The Yankees have babied their players ( Pavano, Johnson, Damon, etc...) terribly of late. Their motto should be: Get out there and play, or go away.

Clemens has been almost unhittable over the last two seasons, although I'd expect him to be touched up a bit after coming to the American League. Pettitte gave up way too many homers last year ( and that was in the NL), so I shutter when I think of the ammount he'd give up after coming over to the Bronx. But maybe Posada and Guidry could help him out....

Re: Yankees, Clemens and Pettitite Reunion?

In my opinion, the Yankees could use Andy Pettite as a starter and Roger Clemens as a relief pitcher, since he doesn't like to pitch a reasonable amount of innings. The Yankees have said before that they don't like to pull out pitchers before the 6th or 7th, because they like to get their money's worth.

Re: Yankees, Clemens and Pettitite Reunion?

to the idea of the rocket being a reliver, it will never happen and heres why. The man wants to show up to the field 1 out of every 5 days. As a closer set up he has to show up every day. So you know he wont happen, espically with the money he has made in the last 3 years. Plus i dont want Pettite back ive already got a guy who gets injured all the time, his name is Pavano. Neither one should come here i will be happy with a rotation headed up by wang and moose. I think we do need a solid three and johnson isnt it. the unit is fourth and pavano is 5. They must adress the issue of a 3rd starter this offseason. I wouldnt mind seeing them go after Paddilla but that wont happen cause he isnt a big name.

Cool Re: Yankees, Clemens and Pettitite Reunion?

I loved Clemens when he was here but to be honest, I'm sick of him already. I'd pass if i wwre the Yankees. Petitte I would bring back for a year or 2. He never should have been allowed to leave in the first place.

Why would Clemens be a bust? Have the last 20 years not been convincing of his abilities?

Although I scoff at the notion of putting one of the best pitchers in the history of the game in the bullpen (and so would he), it would be in the Yankees best interest to get it done, and have him for the entire season. I hate that Houston let him come and go as they please, if he's being paid 20 mil a year, the least he could do would be to hang around even when he's not pitching. Walter Johnson didn't take the weekend off if his team was on the road and he wasnt pitching, and neither should Clemens.

I fully expect the boss to open up the checkbook for Clemens, especially in light of the Matsuzaka ordeal.

Re: Yankees, Clemens and Pettitite Reunion?

Well, it's official - apparently the Yankees have announced the signing of Roger Clemens - Yankees sign Roger Clemens
