The Yankees have a rich history of baseball tradition, which is evident in some of the staggering club records that they boast. The Yankees have put up some enormous numbers as a team, as well as many great individual records over the years.

At the plate the Yankees have several individual game records that would jump out at any baseball fan. A few of the more impressive ones are:
- Joe DiMaggio’s three triples in a 1938 contest against Cleveland
- Lou Gehrig hitting four home runs against Philadelphia in 1932
- Tony Lazzeri belting two grand slams in 1936 against Philadelphia

There have also been some pretty impressive individual game performances by Yankees pitchers over the years:
- Ron Guidry struck out 18 batters in 1978 against California
- Ron Davis struck out eight consecutive batters in 1981

As far as batting records for a season are concerned, check these out:
- Babe Ruth batted. 393 in 1923
- Don Mattingly had 238 hits in 1986
- Joe DiMaggio hit safely in 56 consecutive games in 1941
- Babe Ruth scored 177 runs in 1921
- Roger Maris hit 61 home runs in 1961
- Lou Gehrig had 184 RBI’s in 1931
- Babe Ruth was walked 148 times in 1923
- Rickey Henderson stole 93 bases in 1988

Now for some of the greatest pitching records in a single season:
- Jack Chesbro won 41 games in 1904
- Roger Clemens won 16 consecutive games in 2001
- Ron Guidry had 9 shutouts in 1978
- Spud Chandler had an ERA of 1.64 in 1943
- Mariano Rivera had 50 saves during the 2001 season
- Ron Guidry had 248 strikeouts in 1978

But the Yankees are not all about individual performances. Check out these club records:
- 114 wins in 1998
- 19 consecutive wins in 1947
- 1067 runs scored in 1931
- 1683 hits in 1930
- 240 home runs hit in 1961
- 1171 strikeouts in 2002

These are just a few of the hundreds of Yankees records that have come about over the history of the franchise. In addition to these club records, many Yankees have set records that stand for the entire league.
