Cool Mattingly in - Maz out

Don Mattingly is going to become the new Yankees bench coach and Lee Mazzilli will be looking for new employment. This move makes it inevitable that Donnie Baseball will be the new manager when Torre finally leaves.

I feel bad for Mazzilli. Blaming coaches is the biggest bunch of garbage I've ever seen. The buck stops with the manager. How did Earl Weaver and Tommy La Sorda manage without a bench coach? It's a joke.

And so much for Girardi coaching the Yankees this year.

Re: Mattingly in - Maz out

Mazzilli definitely did not deserve to be fired. He's one of the guys who should have a major league managers job but hasn't been fortunate in the situations he's been in. He should at least find another job on someones bench for next season.

As for Mattingly, I don't see what Cashman or the other Yankee officials see. Is he managerial material?

Girardi didn't take the Nationals' job, may be waitng for next year when Torre's out. Who knows if Mattingly has what it takes? New York is all about handling the media.

If you travel across the bridge to Flushing, a team is there that focuses on winning. Instead of focusing on what is important, the Yankees look forward to impressing the media.
