Two Teams Interested in A-Rod From today's NY Daily News, the two teams named of possibly or probably having interest in Alex Rodriguez this off-season are the Anaheim Angels and Chicago White Sox. The White Sox surprised me but their GM has been interested in A-Rod for awhile now and could offer a good package for him. I just think it's a matter of when this off-season A-Rod finds a new home because there's no way he can be back in 07.

Re: Two Teams Interested in A-Rod K-Rod is great if you are down 10-3 he can hit a 2 run home run or if you are leading early against the D-Rays or Royals he'll hit a homer or maybe get a hit. When it means something he's useless...just like me.

Re: Two Teams Interested in A-Rod I think the Yankees should keep A-Rod, not necessarily so he can play for them, but so that he can't play with another team. You know, if he leaves New York- he'll play wonderfully. I really don't want him hitting 60+ homers for another team...

Re: Two Teams Interested in A-Rod The teams that want A-Rod should be very careful about what they ask for. When John Hart was GM of the Indians several years ago, he did some research and learned a very interesting fact. Specifically, it is that if one player on a MLB roster makes more than 13% of the team's total player payroll, it is counter-productive. It creates real dissension among his teammates. Apparently, he checked out several such situations, and the result was always the same---lousy team chemistry.

| Re: Two Teams Interested in A-Rod There is no way the Yankees can bring him back. They have failed miserably in the exact same way four three seasons in a row; to do it again would be totally stubborn, stupid, and cost them too much credibility with their fan base. A-Rod has to go, in the best deal that is available.

Re: Two Teams Interested in A-Rod A-Rod can veto any trade that the Yankees work out, so it won't be easy to get rid of him. As bizarre as it seems, I think the best solution is for the Yankees to sign another third baseman, in addition to Rodriguez. He would need to be someone who could field reasonably well and hit .250 or better. If he had postseason experience, that would be a bonus. Rodriguez plays well enough during the regular season, so give him the majority of playing time then. But, it would be important to give the other guy a reasonable amount of time as well. Then, when the postseason arrives, put the other guy on the postseason roster, but not A-Rod. The other guy could bat in the 8 or 9-hole, so his modest batting average wouldn't matter as much. Obviously, A-Rod would be bummed by being left off the playoff roster, so the team could tell him, "If you don't like it, work out a deal with another team for next season, and we'll take a look at it." I know it sounds crazy, but the Yankees have painted themselves into a corner with the contract they agreed to with Rodriguez, so they will have to be creative to get out of it. (Incidentally, the Indians will not be re-signing Aaron Boone, so he would be a viable possibility. The Pirates' Joe Randa would be another.) Last edited by chsbletz : 10-16-2006 at 04:25 PM.
