Barry Zito in Pinstripes?

Barry Zito's former teammate, Eric Byrnes thinks there may be a chance of it happening this off-season. According to The Baltimore Sun, Byrnes has said the Yankees are on a "short list" of teams Zito would be interested in signing with.

Some say he's not interested in New York and others (Byrnes) seem to think money would talk. We'll find out this Winter.

Bringing Zito to the Yanks is like trying to cure cancer with aspirin.

Why's that? Yanks have pitching problems. Zito is a great pitcher. Seems a fit to me

Ditto we debated this early this year and everyone was down on the Z-man...but he had a good year, and the Yanks can use him...what's not to like?

Re: Barry Zito in Pinstripes?

They need more than one starting pitcher since Moose is gonna split most likely, Carl Pavano has the body of a man run over by a tank, Randy Johnson is an instant loss and Jaret Wright is....Jaret Wright. Their set up men are deplorable and Mariano is getting old and those 6 out games are making him age faster than someone who took old man pills. They need more than one great pitcher gentlemen...they need a load. Now give up on those losers and all that negativity. Cross the Whitestone Bridge like I did! LETS GO METS!!! C'mon now let me hear ya say it! LETS GO METS!!! Everyone now! LETS GO METS!!!

Of course they need tons of pitching help, we all recognize that. But if they get Barry Zito, it's a step in the right direction.

You can't expect them to get all the pitching they need in one swoop, in a single off-season. It's going to take some time. If they can get Zito (I hope they don't...if the Mets can't get him, stay in the AL and West), it's a nice move.

Re: Barry Zito in Pinstripes?

Zito is a fine pitcher but it's more Yankee short term thinking. It will accomplish absolutely nothing. He's what? 28? They need some 22 year old prospects and (don't cry George!) R-E-B-U-I-L-D!!!

Re: Barry Zito in Pinstripes?

LOL, they're not rebuilding ANYTIME soon.

They have Phillip Hughes who should be ready within the next couple of seasons. So for 07, with Mussina/Wright probably gone...it's Wang, Johnson and they'll have to figure out the rest. Who knows about Pavano.

They sure do need some young arms and if they end up trading A-Rod, they should be able to acquire one or two.

cashman has stated he wouldnt want hughes next year, they want to give him another year of the minors.

But i dont see it happening i think you sign moose to this extension, and have hughes up with a vet still there to teach him

Re: Barry Zito in Pinstripes?

Word on the street is Zito is not interested in a big-money contract with the Yanks. Once the deal is offered, we'll see how legit that claim is....but for once, I think Beane is totally in love with a player. Question: will he actually pay??!!

Nope, I know they're not gonna rebuild. They are also not gonna trade K-Rod according to the news I just heard seconds ago. Next year the Yankees will repeat as AL East Champs (unless the Jays come of age and the Sox learn to sign better arms) and another first round exit. If you guys are happy with that then by all means continue to say how great Living Dead Torre is and how the Yankees are justified in their payroll while the Mets takeover this city!! LETS GO METS!!!
