| Re: What If The Yankees Lose? I could see big George flip out and make wholesale changes - Torre, Cashman, A-Rod, Johnson, Mussina, Sheffield... the list could go on and on. Of course, I'm not as intimately familiar with the Yanks as some of you guys are. What would you say is the likelihood that these guys will wind up playing elsewhere next season?

| Re: What If The Yankees Lose? Sheffield will go, and A-Rod if they can pull off a deal with the Angels. They will throw money at Zito and maybe Ted Lilly. Mussina will be re-signed. Torre stays until he decides to go. |

| Re: What If The Yankees Lose? AP's got an article on on this very topic right now. No surprise, really - considering Steinbrenner's volatile nature and the embarrassment of six straight years without a World Series title. Of course, A-Rod is prominently featured. About a possible trade, he says: "I want to be a Yankee. I don't want to go anywhere, and I can't be more clear. I hope they don't want to trade me, because I don't want to go anywhere... I believe I can be part of the solution here. I've had success in New York -- in the regular season. I have to find it in the postseason." Other names they discuss include free agents to be Bernie Williams, Mike Mussina and Gary Sheffield. "Sheffield, unhappy he was benched in Game 3, was 0-for-4 Sunday and 1-for-12 in the series. Jason Giambi, who sat out Game 4, was 1-for-8 and Robinson Cano 2-for-15... When the Yankees needed a big outing from a starting staff that has been shaky at best, Jaret Wright allowed four runs in 2 2-3 innings, too big a hole for them to climb out of. Randy Johnson, who turns 44 next season, and Mussina, who will be 38, both lost their postseason starts... Carl Pavano hasn't even pitched for the Yankees since June 2005, a permanent member of the disabled list with shoulder, elbow, buttocks, back and rib injuries." |

both the Yankees and the Red Sox need pitching, it would have been a huge pay-day for him think they may beg Clemens to come back to town ? |

| Re: What If The Yankees Lose? I've gone ballistic.... lol... No, I handle losses well, and the Yankees have been disappointing their fans for years now. So, I'm not really surprised the Yanks lost. Heading to the trash heap ( who the Yanks should get rid of the off season): 1) Joe Torre How can you lose with an All Star lineup???? How??? I GUARANTEE that if we switched managers of the ALDS ( Det v. NYY), that the Yanks would win. Torre did nothing that he promised ( back in April) to do- no base stealing, no hit and run, no small ball. He just sat back and let whatever happened, happen. That's not what a manager does. Remember the Torre of '96 and '98? That's who the Yanks need, but that man is gone. 2) Sheffield I wish Sheff had never recovered in time to make the playoffs. The Yanks had ( what seemed to be) a winning formula during the the regular season. Then Sheff came back and Torre messed success. 3) Randy Johnson If I ever have to watch this man take the mound again..... 4) Jaret Wright Same as above.... I think the Yanks should trade away Melky Cabrera ( to get some decent pitching). I mean, look, do we really need 2 left fielders???? And if we can find someone to take A-Rod, that sounds good to me. I HATE the idea of trading away an MVP, but as the past three years have proven- it takes pitching to win the WS. We need to get some starting pitchers ( not 70 year olds, please!!!!!). |

| Re: What If The Yankees Lose? Maybe with Clemens, but I'm looking forward to where Barry Zito goes. He might stay in Oakland if they get a ring! Quote:
Randy Johnson and Jaret Wright are who? They should take away their names since they stink so much! |

| Re: What If The Yankees Lose? I'd expect George to make a big push for Zito. But really, they need quantity as well as quality right now, so it'll take more than one big name to fix things. Hopefully George is at the point where he realizes that a band-aid won't fix things this time around - the team is old, the most expensive players don't get the job done when you need them most, and if I'm not mistaken, the farm system is somewhat depleted. Lots of work to be done in NY. |
