rangers rock

8-0-2 in their last ten.
They beat the bruins today 1-0 in a shootout and Lundqvist gets his 8th shutout.
Apparently Auld was hot too, and I guess when it's 1-0 final score, he would have to be.
35 shots on Auld - 29 shots on Lundqvist-all down to the shootout.
Dawes get the winner - Shanahan and Drury missed.
Chara was gone due to that strain from Saturday's game.

Re: rangers rock

Chara could've made a difference, but a VERY boring game with no scoring.

I'm keen on those games - goalies rule. It's a chance for them to show off their stuff.

Very true.

I can enjoy a good 0-0 game, if it is due to great defense and goal tending!

Most fans can't.

I think a scoreless tie almost gets to have an OT feel if it enters the third that way. And the longer it lasts, the more you see teams begin to press.

Great drama! And when someone does score, the bench goes crazy! Some of the best goals occur during such times!

Re: rangers rock

that's exactly how i feel Phils- it feels like OT and even more nail biting, will they score? and then i start feeling for the goalies - don't wreck his shutout.
i think it's double exciting.
I think I have a soft spot for defense and goaltending - it's where my interest in the game lies more. I love the whole goalie personality thing too. Cranky? Young newbie hotshot? past his prime?

so ud rather have a game, where its 3-2 with all weak goals scored, then teams getting good scoring chances for the majority of the game, and both goalies standing on their head?

I'm torn. I love a bunch of great, athletic saves, but on the other hand, NBC had a great story about how thick the padding has been getting lately. They claim today's goalies cover 15% more of the goal than they did just a handful of years ago (don't remember exactly when). That almost feels like cheating.

Aren't they still measuring the pads? I know when Garth Snow was in goal for the Flyers 10 years ago, they passed some rules about the Pads. And there was a Flyer goalie a couple of years ago that wasn't allowed to use his pads due to the size. It was right at the start of the season, so he still had his old ones to fall back on!

Hmmmmmmmmm, I almost make it sound like the Flyers cheat!

Re: rangers rock

But good offense is just one of many aspects of the game. There is also Defence and Goal tending. Not to mention coaching strategy. There is more than just cherry picking and easy goals!

You are only getting a small bit of the pie if you only enjoy goals. It's like eating the filling and leaving the crust behind!

Defense, yes, but coaches today aren't doing well.

Never.
That Flyer goalie was Cechmanek, i think. he was huge as well as hugely padded-then they made new rules and made the goalies wear slightly less padded pads - said the goalies were getting way too big and players couldn't score, it was unfair.
I think brodeur looks practically round.
Love the pie reference btw, Phils.

AHHHHHHHHHHHH, Cechmanek!!! I don't even think he is in the NHL anymore. He was a decent goaltender, but he made Hextall look sane. And his team mates despised him. Word has it he would berate them for not playing well in front of him, and there were times when they would play soft just to P@#$ him off!

Glad you liked the pie! I thought it was appropriate!
