Simon gives NHL black eye

did you guys see this cheap shot in the rangers islanders game? Simon def hurt a leauge in need of a clean image. I'm just glad the rangers made simon pay and scored the game winning goal on the power play. This is the same as Marty when he was with the canucks i belive, did he ever play after that i know he got suspended for awhile but i just dont remember if he ever signed with someone after it

Re: Simon gives NHL black eye

I didn't see the cheap shot yet, but Simon has a history - he used to be uglier, in every sense of the word.
This win sucks. toronto loses, Rangers win and catapults the rangers right into playoff position, leaving Leafs in 10th.

Re: Simon gives NHL black eye

Simon swung his stick like a baseball bat and hit a Ranger player right in the neck. It was an incredibly cheap shot, not wild at all... very calm and calculated. Thankfully the player's going to be OK, but that's irrelevant -- the guy should be gone at least for this year and hopefully longer. The way the swing went, it damn well could have been fatal had it connected just a little differently.

Re: Simon gives NHL black eye

Yeah, no excuse - out of frustration I guess, but not defending it.
Simon used to be some piece of work when he was with Washington. he cleaned it up some.
What does Pundit have to say, i wonder?

Cool Re: Simon gives NHL black eye

Simon should get suspended for the year for that hit. And he probably will.

But he really didn't cost the Islanders the game.....

I'm freaking sorry,...but what's the point of having replay if the don't even get that right?

When I originally watched the disputed goal, I screamed in happiness because ithe puck was clearly over the line. I couldn't believe I saw the ref waived it off. I was even in more shock when the idiots upstairs, or Toronto, or whichver nitwit is looking at these replays - said it was no goal. Hockey referreing continues to be the biggest joke of all the 4 major sports.

Brendan Witt:

Quote:
It was a tough call for the ref because he was on the wrong side of the puck," Isles defenseman Brendan Witt said. "But then the guys in Toronto need to do their -- job. They have no -- to put it on the line. Use the -- rule. Obviously, from the angles they had from the corner, it looked in. [Lundqvist's] stick went across the line. But obviously, the guys in Toronto don't want to do their job. What are you going to do?"

Re: Simon gives NHL black eye

yeah i totally agree, reffing in the NHL is a joke. Of course I'm a Leafs fan but there seems no team so screwed by reffing as the Leafs. Calls not made when they should have been, then calls against us that so rarely get missed.
The entire reffing association needs to be overhauled and made to answer, not treated like untouchable little kings with black and white striped shirts.

And I'm not just saying it because it affected the Islanders last night. I've been saying it for years, even when it helps the Islanders. Did you see the goal (non-goal), What did you think? Do I need to go for an eye check?

Re: Simon gives NHL black eye

I just saw the replay. It was a disgrace. He should be suspended for at least the rest of the season. What is the line where a player is just not allowed to play anymore for fear that he will injure somebody?

Cool Re: Simon gives NHL black eye

Listen, there's no defending it. Simon should get the rest of this season including THE PLAYOFFS. Maybe that would send a message. If the Islanders don't make the playoffs, give him another 25 games next season.

I have a question: Who is looking at these replays? I always thought it was somebody upstairs, but Brendan Witt kept referring to the "Guys from Toronto."

Is somebody in Toronto looking at the replay? Witt:

Quote:
"But then the guys in Toronto need to do their -- job. They have no -- to put it on the line. Use the -- rule. Obviously, from the angles they had from the corner, it looked in. [Lundqvist's] stick went across the line. But obviously, the guys in Toronto don't want to do their job.
Who are the guys in Toronto?

Re: Simon gives NHL black eye

Hey i just saw the hit. Out of anger. Totally uncalled for, after a good hit on Simon by Hollweg.
I've tried to find the goal on Lundqvist, can't yet - but I did find video of a very drunk Lundqvist.

ya know im a die hard ranger, i still dont agree with what simon did, but i belive hollwegs hit should of been boarding or in travel hockey a hit from behind. he clearly plants his shoulder on his numbers. Then simon over reacts, what hollweg did was a common penalty and simon showed he had no self control and no care for his teams playoff race. Then again if it was possible simon just sold more tickets to islander ranger games int he future.
