Jagr skipping shootouts

I'll admit I haven't been watching Rangers games, but I was reading today that Jaromir Jagr has been sitting out shootouts. As the New York Post wrote today, "It is unfathomable. In what, by definition, was the most important game of the Rangers' season, because each succeeding match becomes the most important for the unsuccessful 11th-place Blueshirts, Jaromir Jagr did not participate in a shootout that went four rounds against Martin Brodeur."

Jagr skipping shootouts? That can't sit well with Rangers fans, I bet.

Cool Re: Jagr skipping shootouts

Boy, this is really weak on Jagr's part. You're in the fight of your life for the playoffs, you're a top 5 player in the league and you quit?
Quote:
When he chose not to participate in the shootout Thursday night, an eventual 3-2 loss to the Devils, that was his principle motivation. Right or wrong, Jagr said he truly believed he wasn't the best man for the job.

"Trust me, if I knew it would help the team, I would be the first guy to stand on the red line," Jagr said after yesterday's practice in preparation for tonight's game against Columbus at the Garden. "I always do whatever I think is good for the team. If I think it's going to hurt me, or I'm not going to be the hero, it doesn't matter to me, because I know it's good for the team."

But was it the right decision? Would the Rangers not be best suited to have their leader and most prolific scorer take part in a shootout?

"I look at it as a guy that doesn't believe he's comfortable doing it at certain points in time, and it's an intelligent move," Tom Renney said. "I don't have a problem with it at all."
