Mark messier told a Toronto newspaper yesterday that he was going to talk to sather about taking over as GM when Sather left.
this was news to sather.
Beyond that, Sather says whatever would be said between him and the former NY captain would be kept private.
I say the messier train has started and it'll push whoever is in his way out of the way. remember the Messier awards, to be given out to his choice of the best player each month? this guy's ego is almost as overwhelming as his influence. Scratch 'tact' from his list of learned abilities, though.
Maybe there is no room for tact in the NHL.

As great as a player Messier is, he can really be a snake. I wouldn't turn my back on him if I were Sather.

yeah no kidding. messier is so in charge as soon as he says so. who's going to say No?

look i was not a fan of sather as the coach nor the gm when he was coaching. I forget were i read it but they said it was either tim renny or the assitant gm that was deciding which players to get rid of and go after if this is true i dont think sather has long with the organazation anyway. Now messier as a gm could be really intresting, he grew up playing the old style so it be curious to see what type of players he would want, also i got a feeling if he becomes gm he will become the coach soon enough which i dont want.
