Re: Jagr left off all star team

yeah right, his choice - would fans really pay attention to that?
honestly - crosby briere and ovechkin deserve it more. briere is doing an amazing job leading his team and buffalo fans are pumped. there was no question whether crosby would make the team, and ovechkin is hot. I would think jagr didn't get in due to too much competition.

Re: Jagr left off all star team

This from Sportsnetnewyork.tv (sny.tv), and Mr. Brooks writes for the New york post:

"It has become impossible to watch Jagr play without recognizing that his game is significantly impaired in the aftermath of the shoulder surgery he endured last May," Brooks writes. "He is not the same powerful force on the ice he was all last season. He is not the same threat with or without the puck that he was all last season."...
Brooks closes by imploring the Rangers to order Jagr not to play in the NHL All-Star game on Jan. 24. Including the break, the Rangers play only once in 10 days beginning on the 17th.

I've been trying to find where jagr finished in the voting.

Re: Jagr left off all star team

He finished behind the top 3 and Afinogenov, malkin and drury.
sometimes it's a popularity contest - not just numbers.

Cool Re: Jagr left off all star team

So why wasn't he selected by the coach or whomever picks it. Hockey should have all their marquee players at the game.

Re: Jagr left off all star team

it's a fan vote. it's not like a couple of schlebs got in - he got beaten out by some great players, is all.
but they're saying, it's cause he's not recovered from injuries, which is why iginla's not playing either.

forget the fan voting.....they voted for the right players which is quite rare. But, i'm talking about the rest of the team. He didn't want to play. I'm glad, he could use a 3 day rest.

Re: Jagr left off all star team

That's the thing - it's an honour, but usually, the players who don't go get a great rest and some practice in. Plus the all star game is never very good, because what player is going to play his best at something like this?
I wonder if it's worth it - make an all star list but don't do the game. the skills thing is fun, but sometimes players hurt themselves doing that and what a waste.

Cool Re: Jagr left off all star team

By the way, welcome to GOTeamsGo DMBfan.....I don't know, Blue. I sort of like the game, I would hate to see them do away with it.

the rangers right now suck. Look it might be because im a north american, but i ****ing hate east west hockey. TO many euros do it and its annoying, this is about jagr too, he makes to many extra moves that cost scoring chances, so does nylander, and many other checs and euros on the rangers. The rangers as a team are built with a bunch of pieces that dont go togther.

Now about Jagr, he isnt a great leader and he isnt a marquee name, would you call bernie williams going into this baseball season a marquee name? Jagr's marquee career ended in pittsburgh. Jagr yet again decided he didnt feel like playing this year. He is a waste of talent and shouldnt be on the all-star team, the guy had the body and skills to play like ovechkin and mario and instead decided to play like a skirt. Shannhan is the only ranger that deserved the spot in my mind. Normally i hate the rangers signing old vets to contracts but i hope they get an extension for shannahan. But does anybody no how many more years i have to put up with jarg as a ranger???

Re: Jagr left off all star team

o and the shoulder thing is a crock, in my book. he has had enough time to heal. and theres one move that can tell you the shoulder isnt a prob jagr still uses his same move to the net. Get paraleel to the defensemen dip your hip and shoulder and drive to the net, if his shoulder was still a problem and he was worried about that he wouldnt lead with his shoulder like that. Plus after you take one big hit and nothing hurts u usually say to yourself, hey man everythign is A ok, ok wheres the puck lets get it. To me jagr is no more a marquee name then scottie pippen is. i thought last year wen he decided to play hed be back but now im just tired of him.

Re: Jagr left off all star team

You're sounding a little like Don Cherry, there, mervinout.
Europeans and Russians bring a lot to the game that was missing for so long. We don't want to completely dismiss nations of talent.
I will say that i've never been a huge fan of Jagr because of his attitude and I agree that he is not a leader. he is very much for himself. He certainly is one of the best moves-wise and he racks up the points, but I like a team player guy. I also like players who go to defence if they are needed there, who fight and score, not just score.
That said, he doesn't represent all Czechs/Swedes/Russians/Fins/Slovakians/ Swiss/Kazakstanians/Ukrainians/etc etc etc. I say thank God for this wonderful blended NHL because it brought us Mister Sundin.
Who is kind of bugging me right now.
