| Pedro and 3000 Going into tonights game, Pedro Martinez was 15 strikeouts shy of 3000, as expressed by Metsblog. After the horrible game tonight in which he pitched one inning (and left with a calf strain), he's now 14 strikeouts shy of the remarkable feat. He'd become just the 14th pitcher in Major League history to join the 3000k club. After Pedro, just Curt Schilling (2,832 k's), John Smoltz (2,567) and Mike Mussina (2,400) are nearby among active pitchers. Just another amazing stats for one of the best pitchers of our time. |

| Re: Pedro and 3000 But only Grove has more than 236 wins on that winning percentage list of any pitcher in the modern era.. His 300-141 lifetime record is even more extraordinary because he didn't break in until he was 25, having gone 109-36 in the "minors" with the Orioles. Pedro is now showing baseball why the Mets were foolish to pay him all that money and give him four years on his contract, as he limps home in just his second NY season. Who knows if he will pitch again this year, or how effective he will be?
