Mets and Darryl Strawberry Dispute The Mets plan on having a big pre-game ceremony on August 19th to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 1986 Championship team. The plan was to invite each of the available members of that team (minus the guys who are current day coaches and of course Doc Gooden who is in prison). It was revealed last week (without a reason given) that Darryl Strawberry was not going to attend the big event. Now it appears we know why. Thanks to Hotfoot for the story and also the Bergen Record story on it. It's sad that money must come in between such a celebration.

Re: Mets and Darryl Strawberry Dispute The 1986 New York Mets were a surprising team, beating the Red Sox in the seventh game of the World Series. But I am sure that you already know the whole story so I won't have to explain it again. You either lived it or you heard about it--it was history! The Mets Organization is using the championship team as a reason to "pump up" the fans down the stretch. They have done this all year so that the fans start to cheer their team to win another World Series. And so far, it has been working!

Re: Mets and Darryl Strawberry Dispute This tidbit was posted on Mets.com today: "D back: Strawberry now plans to attend the Saturday night reunion of the 1986 World Series championship team. The Mets play the Rockies that night at 7:35 ET." Talk about a change of heart lol. It's great news though to have Straw live and present for the '86 Celebration.
