Oliver Perez

Oliver Perez was acquired in the deal involving Xavier Nady earlier this week. Perez two seasons ago was one of the premiere young lefty's in the game. However he's fallen off the planet since as his mechanics have gone downhill and it appears his confidence has as well.

As this NY Daily News blog says, Perez will throw a session for Rick Peterson today before being officially sent down to Triple-A Norfolk. His teammate, Roberto Hernandez said the Pittsburgh officials attempted to turn him from a flamethrower (he routinely hit the mid 90s) to a finesse type of pitcher.

I sure hope he can turn his career around because he certainly was one heck of a pitcher in 2004.

You know I like the kid...but did they try to turn him into a finesse pitcher, or did he lose 5-8 mph off that fastball of his?...

I could have sworn he lost velocity...

Hope he gets it back
