Francisco Rodriguez Joins The Mets

The Mets after least season seem desperate for bull-pen help, and they may have found it. Rodriguez is coming off a record 62 save season for the Los Angeles Angels. On Tuesday, Francisco Rodriguez and the Mets reached an agreement of $37 million for 3 years.

So what exactly do the Mets get with this deal? They get an All-star closer. A guy who holds the record for most saves in a season, 62. He is a pretty young guy at 26 years old, which means he could be yet to reach his prime. Not to mention he has some post-season experience. All this could deffenitley help out the Mets and their bull-pen situation.

Re: Francisco Rodriguez Joins The Mets

A good pick-up for them. Reasonable cost and a 4th yr that only kicks in if he stays healthy which just goes to show they learned their lesson from Pedro and Wagner. Plus they just traded for JJ Putz. Certainly the Mutts have improved their bullpen in the back-end, which killed them the past 2 years. However they have done nothing to address the SP situation, 2B or the LF/RF they need. Granted the pen was their biggest worry and they solved it very well, but they need to make some more moves if they want to compete with the Phils and stay ahead of the Fish.

Yes it seems no question that the Mets bullpen will make a comeback. They have added K-Rod and Putz. With these two that should really help out the bullpen.

I think with Santana it wasn't really his fault. He had a great ERA of 2.53 which is amazing. So I think the bullpen lost a lot of games for him as he had 16 wins and 7 losses. I also think the offense for the Mets didn't show up on the days Santana was on the mound. All-in-all though he really wasn't too bad of a trade.

No, I didn't say he was. Think he was a fantastic trade. Arguably one of the top 3 pitchers in baseball. What I meant was that after him in the rotation they are full of holes. Pedro gone, Perez leaving, Maine hurt but also up and down. They are talking abt Perez coming back but can not figure out why? Guy was a yo-yo. He is the perfect example of million dollar arm and 10 cent head. And with Boras for an agent, well no secret I don't like the Mutts, but I hate to see anyone get swindled and that what it seems Boras is going to do to them.

Re: Francisco Rodriguez Joins The Mets

No prob. I think Boras is really trying to shovle a pile of s**t in Perez, to the market. Perez has good stuff but no brain. Guy is so erratic. And Boras is trying to say he is as good as Santana or Hamels... please. Problem is Mutts are so thin at SP and so desperate they may end up paying big bucks just to get him. If they knew Church was going to be fine from his concussions then maybe they could trade Murphy to someone for a young pitcher... or even that kid Martinez (?) in their farm system for a young arm or two. Yes they needed Putz but they have dumped their bullpen and basically just got another bullpen guy back... why didn't they try and get some SP instead?? Plus Delgado is a yr older and who knows what you get with him??? The 1st half guy or the 2nd half guy?? One looked great and one was horrible. Based on his age you have to think chances are greater for 1st half guy. They do have Reyes, Wright (best 3B in baseball.... even I as a Phillies fan will admit that) and Beltran so it will be up to them to carry them. However, I just don't see it happening. They have too many holes to fill. Bullpen...filled. 2B.... open. LF/RF..... question marks. SP.... unfilled. Think this year they get passed by Fish for 2nd place.

I like this. K-Rod will hopefully be a good help to the Mets. Yes, I said I liked the guy, but this isn't the Angels anymore.
