FOX Sports - MLB - Mets could trade top prospect for Zito
Ken Rosenthal says a "growing number of baseball execs" say the Mets are now more open to and are discussing moving prized OF prospect Lastings Milledge if they can get a top-flight starter. They would love Dontrelle Willis but it's clear that won't happen as the Marlins would ask for the earth and moon for the pitcher they control through 2009 (and rightfully so). However, it now appears as though the Mets are possibly looking into Barry Zito, Jason Schmidt and from ESPN's insider, even Bobby Abreu.
This is a 180 change from a perspective when the Mets (although never saying so publicly) were believed to consider Milledge an untouchable. Either way, Milledge's name seems to be mentioning a lot as of late.
Another line of thinking is that since Mike Pelfrey has come up and pitched pretty well, no potential pitcher they could acquire easily would be better. So, they could then look towards another position (possibly RF).
Who knows...
