Good game for Reyes, but a bad game for Billy Wagner.

According to the AP, Wagner has blown 4 saves in 18 opps this season. That's... not good.

As good as the Mets have been, their bullpen may be the chink in their armor. Wagner has been getting by on his reputation, and Heilman has been bad lately.

Re: Reyes' cycle wasted as Reds top Mets

The pen is statistically among the top in the majors but has been tiring out the past 2-3 weeks. That west coast trip last week helped with those CGs from Duque and Soler but still. Wagner seems to have mental lapses too often on the mound where he'll look great but then mess up. Heilman recently was found to have a mechanical issue with his delivery which they supposedly fixed. It's just a matter of keeping Sanchez and Heilman fresh (if that's possible).

Chad Bradford has been a pleasant surprise.

At least the Mets were able to win Thursday afternoon to leave the series even. David Wright looked spectacular while hitting a couple of HRs and Jose Reyes continued his hotness They now head to Toronto to play a pretty good team in the BlueJays.

How can you call Reyes' cycle wasted, they lost the game but the cycle still counts and besides they lead the league by some 11 games.

Re: Reyes' cycle wasted as Reds top Mets

lol, it's a moot point anywho. Reyes is on fire as of late. He's nearly hitting .500 in his last 50 or 60 ABs. Since he missed those two games weeks ago, he's shortened up his swing and the result is being one of the top hitters since.

Amazing how he's gotten his avg above .300, simply amazing.

Re: Reyes' cycle wasted as Reds top Mets

Jose Reyes was observed in the minor leagues as one of baseball's top future contact hitters. He very might well be the next Ichiro Suzuki, since he is adapting to the MLB. Reyes had some troubles in his past, but hopefully his obstacles are behind him.

Just to tell you, Sportsfan, I felt that the news headline was a little misleading too. Jose Reyes' cycle was all over the news and attracted a bunch of public attention. Fortunately, not that many reporters discussed how poorly Wagner is pitching this year (thanks for the statistics, Lefty Noob).
