| Manuel stresses we need to move on from the season we had Quote:
NEW YORK -- Phillies base runners were sprinting around the bases, putting the Mets' lead in even greater jeopardy. A 10-1 lead after 5 1/2 innings was down to three runs in the bottom of the ninth, when Pedro Feliz hit a ground ball through the middle with two outs. Fleet Shane Victorino would score from second base, and the Mets wouldn't give it a second thought because the run he represented was meaningless. For that matter, the run represented by Eric Brunlett, the runner on first, was insignificant as well.
Feliz was the Mets' only concern. Their lone objective, once his hit passed the infield cutout, was to deny him second base, to keep the potential tying run from reaching scoring position. So when Carlos Beltran handled Feliz's base hit, the proper throw -- the only throw he should even have considered -- was to second. But Beltran's throw went to third base and beyond. Brunlett scored. And worse, Feliz advanced to second.
