Matsui Traded To Rockies for Marrero

http://www.nypost.com/sports/mets/67241.htm

The Post says the Mets are about to trade Kaz Matsui to the Colorado Rockies for utility player (OF/C/1B) Eli Marrero. The holding block on the potential deal is the fact that Matsui makes way too much money and the Mets will have to pay most of it. Also, points in the contract are holding it up. Matsui apparently has a clause in his deal that states he can't be sent to the minors unless it's for a rehab start...the Rockies want to send him to AAA.

I guess the Mets really just want to get Matsui out of town. Getting a guy like Marrero back (if this were to happen) would only be helpful b/c he can play multiple positions. Otherwise, it's simply a dump of salary and the baggage of Matsui.

Re: NY Post: Matsui Nearly a Rockie

It's a done deal -- the AP is reporting that the New York Mets have traded slumping second baseman Kaz Matsui and $4.5 million to the Colorado Rockies for utilityman Eli Marrero on Friday. The cash is to make up the differences in the two players salaries. Reactions?

Re: NY Post: Matsui Nearly a Rockie

Well, the Kaz Matsui era of the Mets is officially over. On local sports talk radio, not one person is sad to see him go and frankly, he needed to go.

What happened is such a mystery. All the major league scouts, managers and officials who ever watched the guy in Japan raved about him. Seattle, the Yanks, Mets and others all battled to sign the guy. His SS glove was awful and his bat was not as powerful as advertised.

I hope he succeeds in Colorado as he was nothing but a classy guy while in NY.

I guess when it comes to New York not all Matsui are created equal. Still in Coors field he has to be good for +20 homers I would think.

It would be funny if he hit really well for Colorado. That's what happened to Jeremy Burnnitz. He hit before and after he was on the Mets.

If you can't hit in Colorado, you can't hit in the majors

Re: NY Post: Matsui Nearly a Rockie

Good point there, Gotham Dark Knight. I believe in Coors Field, the ball drags 20% father (40 yards?). I would love to hit in Colorado, and I am sure that Kazuo will hit more homeruns, than usual.

I am glad that Kazuo Matsui is finally gone. He was an $8.2 million dollar waste of money! He rarely played and for that matter, he rarely hit. Matsui was just a horrible athlete in my opinion. He must have had his best years in Japan!

I think the Mets got the better of the deal. I wish Kaz a lot of luck but it just didn't work out.
