Santana earns 100th win

Mets P Johan Santana earned his 100th career victory yesterday, striking out six in 7.2 innings in a 6-1 victory over the Dodgers.
So how many more will he get in his career before all is said and done? Can he win another 100 games before the end of his MLB career?

Not a bad accomplishment for a former rule 5 pick.

Re: Santana earns 100th win

He is a great pitcher and I think he should.... just not with the Mutts! He has not dominated on a consistent basis like every Mutts fan thought he would... he has proven to be rather... average, for lack of a better word. I think as he gets used to the NL he will re-assert himself but certainly playing for the Mutts and all the problems they have does not help.

I don't know what expectations you or Mets fans had of him, but he has been very good this year. He certainly isn't pitching at his 2004-2006 peak, but he is still one of the better pitchers in the league.

Re: Santana earns 100th win

I am not a Mutts fan so I had no expectations.... I believe most Mutts fans thought that he would go 25-5, win the Cy Young and the MVP, post a 1.20 ERA and have 250+K's while leading the Mutts to a WS title. But you are correct, even last year was a step down from 2004-2006. This year is shaping up to be just like last yr, if he is lucky he gets 17 wins, don't think he makes 200K's and his ERA stay above 3.10. Are those good numbers??? Sure I would take them on my team in a sec. But this is a guy who was traded for 4 picks, right?, and then signed a huge contract. Every single analyst on ESPN and on the radio said the Mutts would now rule the NL East and everyone was fighting for second. Well it has not turned out that way. Maybe, just maybe, 2004-2006 was the best Santana was ever going to be. Maybe he is now just a very good guy who gets you 15-18 wins a year. Like I said, thats great. But there are several guys out there who get that and don't cost $20+M a year. And the Mutts have shown they need several more pieces so while Santana has posted good numbers so far, he is certainly not what they thought they were getting.
