Lima Time is Officially Over!

Just announced on WFAN (local NYC sports radio station) that the Mets designated SP Jose Lima for assignment...which means he's basically gone. The rumors flying have them bringing someone up from Double-A Binghampton.

I can't see them bringing Mike Pelfrey up so my money is on Alay Soler who has done great at AA. A former member of the Cuban national team, Soler finally came to America (after visa problems) earlier this year and has done well.

Re: Lima Time is Officially Over!

Mets called up relief RHP Anderson Garcia from Triple A-Norfolk last night. He's been compared to a Armando Benitez-esque player. His fastball easily gets into the high 90s but he has no confidence whatsoever in his changeup. If he ever works on getting a good changeup, he could be a closer...but doesn't look like it's happened yet.

Garcia was slated for the majors in 2007 but Minaya and Co. felt the need to bolster the pen until next week when Lima's turn in the rotation comes up...they'll make another move to bring another starter in.

This line is from Newsday..."Garcia, 25, was 1-0 with a 1.26 ERA in eight appearances for the Tides and opponents were batting .170 against him."

Soler signed a 3 year deal for $2.8 million, I think they would like to have a look see at this kid (27 yearold)...

Re: Lima Time is Officially Over!

I am glad Jose Lima got demoted...He was just a bad pitcher and had little control over where he threw the ball.

I have provided a link with the few pitching statistics of Alay Soler:http://www.rotowire.com/baseball/player.htm?id=8408

I have been told that the Mets were considering to bring up (A)Jerimi Gonzalez or (B)Alay Soler earlier this month. They chose A, but now they are getting B anyway. This whole pitching rotation is a mess. I think they should turn Aaron Heilman into a starter for now or even the incredible Duaner Sanchez (even though they could use him in the pen).

Re: Lima Time is Officially Over!

They have called up Alay Soler, as of earlier this morning. He's expected to start on Wednesday v. the Phillies (in Cole Hamels' Shea Debut).

Re: Lima Time is Officially Over!

Glad to see I was right...when you shell out big bucks there is a tendency to wanna take a look see...and Soler has plenty of experience with the Cuban team...so its not really like they are rushing him.
