Could Edgardo Alfonzo be headed back to New York? Possibly, according to the Riverside Press Enterprise, who is reporting that the Angels could ship Alfonzo to New York for Kazuo Matsui. Would this be a good move for the Mets?

If they could dump that contract on the Giants it would be worth getting Alfonso. He is listed at 32 years old, but who here actually believes that? Still, he had his best years as a Met and could come back to life in New York.

I remember when this trade was first rumored in the middle of last season. At this point, the Mets only care about getting Matsui's money off the books. He's been very serviceable at 2nd this year but he's been shopped all year.

As far as Alfonzo goes, I wouldn't think he'd be a problem. If anything, he could provide some veteran leadership towards Anderson Hernandez and help him learn further the fundamentals of 2B. Add to the fact that Alfonzo's cousin already works for the Mets and the fans just adore him, it could happen.

It's just a matter of how the money plays out in any potential deal here.

Guess we don't have to worry about any trades...Alfonzo was released last week and is now a free agent.
