Mike Pelfrey, the "Next Big Thing"

From the NY Daily News, a good piece on the top Mets pitching prospect.

Reading it just makes me get giddy thinking about his eventual call-up later this year.

Pelfrey (whom I am sure is a good prospect) would do better without the Media hype...

I remembering seeing Greg Jefferies break in up there in late 1988.... .321 average 6 homers in limited play...saw him live have a 3 out of 5 day with a game winning RBI...the press went crazy...Jefferies ended up in KC a few seasons later....

Remember, with the Mets, it could be "Mike Pelfrey-the next Paul Wilson". The Mets tend to really overhype their prospects, but then when they do get one right, like Kazmir, they trade him for a bum like Zambrano.

I don't think it's the Mets who may be hyping the kid. Even Baseball America loves the kid and thought he was realistically the top pitcher in last year's draft. The only reason he fell to #9 was the Scott Boras factor.
