| Santana agrees to $150.75M, seven-year deal with Mets NEW YORK -- Johan Santana and the New York Mets agreed Friday to a $150.75 million, seven-year contract, a record for a pitcher and the last major step needed to finalize the team's blockbuster trade with Minnesota. After the sides were granted an extra two hours to work on a deal, the Mets announced about 30 minutes before the new 7 p.m. EST deadline that negotiations had concluded. The pitcher was scheduled to take a physical Saturday. | Pretty much every pitcher who signed these mega deals weren't worth it: Kevin Brown, Pedro Martinez ( Was good for 2 years but last year he was hurt), Barry Zito, Carl Pavano...Show me a pitcher who signed a huge deal who was worth it. I can't think of any. |

| Re: Santana agrees to $150.75M, seven-year deal with Mets Huh? The first big move Minaya made when he was hired was to talk Pedro into coming to NY (and the 4th year didn't hurt, lol). Then Minaya was able to sign Beltran). They didn't sign Delgado. Minaya traded for him. Signing Pedro was the move that turned the franchise around. He made the Mets important again and gave them that legit superstar (Reyes and Wright were not there yet). |
