Reports today say the Twins offered Johan Santana a five-year, $100 million deal that he declined. So they know either they must deal him now or deal him during the year. Stories saying they have stepped up their pursuit to deal him as soon as this week are strong.

The Mets appear to be the top contenders for Santana at this point. Of course, they will have to be willing to go 7-years for the ace starter which is going to be tough, but they will have to do it if they want Santana.

Also something to watch is if the Mets are including Fernando Martinez in their offers.

There should be a lot of noise within the next few days of the Twins trying to get other teams involved as well.
