Mets Trade Offer for Johan Santana

Over the past two days, a lot has seemingly transpired in baseball land when concerning Johan Santana. With the Red Sox and Yankees quiet, the Mets have jumped to the forefront of talks with the Minnesota Twins.

Reportedly, the Mets made an official offer to the Twins including: pitching prospect Deolis Guerra, center fielder Carlos Gomez and pitchers Kevin Mulvey and Phil Humber. The Twins countered and said the Mets would have a "DONE DEAL" if they included outfielder Fernando Martinez.

The offer includes the an in the Mets system according to Baseball America and then Humber who is rated 7th in the organization.

Then, reports came out saying Mets owner Fred Wilpon gave Omar Minaya the OK where money is concerned. So if Minaya can acquire Santana, the Mets would be willing to fork over the big bucks.

A story to follow indeed...the Red Sox and Yankees don't want to fork over the players while the Mets may do so.

Cool Re: Mets Trade Offer for Johan Santana

The Yankees would be fine with the Mets getting Santana - as long as the Red Sox don't get him.

According to Mike Francessa on WFAN, he said that "the Mets" have told him that the Twins still haven't given up their request for Jose Reyes - that the above rumor is false.

And since I'm 99% sure that Francessa's source is Omar Minaya, I tend to believe him.

Re: Mets Trade Offer for Johan Santana

There have been conflicting reports on the Reyes front. Some have said as far as a couple of weeks back that the Twins accepted the Mets wouldn't trade Reyes and haven't talked about him since. Others aren't so sure the Twins have given up asking for Reyes.

IMO, the Mets told Minnesota up front that Reyes (& Wright) are untouchable and they moved on from there.

Although I'm not the hugest Francessa fan, you can be sure his version of events is accurate, since it's Manaya who gives him his info.

Even if Minaya is his source on such info, Minaya could be feeding him certain info to protect himself in case the Mets don't get Santana.

Anything could be possible but I don't think so. The reason: Minaya loves to have Francessa in his corner and if he purposely gave him false info, that would be the end of that.

But you could be right. Also Minaya tends to change his mind 18 million times, too.
