Newsday reports talks between the NY Mets and free-agent catcher Yorvit Torrealba broke down Saturday and any deal is off.
"The Mets' negotiations with Yorvit Torrealba collapsed on Saturday and the free-agent catcher will not be headed to Shea for next season after all.
The two sides already had agreed on a three-year contract worth $14.4-million and it appeared that the only remaining holdup to an official announcement was a physical. But a person familiar with the situation said Saturday that the Torrealba deal was dead and the team confirmed it."
Torrealba through his agent gave no comment on why the deal broke down. MetsBlog assumes Torrealba ultimately decided to not come to Shea...or he could have failed a physical (that has not been mentioned anywhere).
Now the Mets are forced to return to the catchers market. Will they go after Paul Lo Duca? His agent came out recenty and said the Mets showed no interest in bringing him back. Change of mind on the way?
