Beltran, Wright Win Gold Gloves

Carlos Beltran and David Wright were announced as winners of the NL Gold Glove award for their respective positions.

This is Beltran's second consecutive Gold Glove for his spectacular centerfield play. Wright earned his first Gold Glove after a 2007 season where he "was second in the NL among third basemen in games started with 159 and total chances with 452" according to The Journal News.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this? This shows you how overrated the Gold Glove Award is.

Trust me, I watched a lot of Mets games this year and Wright is not a Gold Glove Fielder. His throwing is way below par.

If he was truly a gold glover, would the Mets be talking about him moving to first?

Should we remove Brooks Robinson and Ozzie from the Hall while we are at it?...

Or hey, Yaz won a batting title with a .301 average once...how dare he be over +.100 points lower than freakin Ty Cobb in prime...kick the bump out of the Hall, shall we?

The Mets aren't really talking about moving him, it's just with the ARod speculation (which won't happen).

His throwing at times is a bit weak but then he'll go and make some of the most amazing defensive plays I've ever seen. He makes a nice one-hop throw to first when he was to field to his right or go back to field it. I haven't watched many other third baseman but I wouldn't categorize this as a sham (ie. Palmeiro getting a gold glove for first).

Gotham, you sort of make my point. You just can't go by the stats. You just have to ask yourself was this player a great dominant player and/or did he do special things in big games etc....(Kirby Puckett).

The same way you do that, just because a guy amasses 3000 hits or gets 300 wins or gets 10 gold gloves does not automatically make him a HOF. Guys like Biggio and Sutton played long enough to compile gaudy numbers. Neither of them were ever great players.

Dude, Biggio was a great player when compared to his peers...how many guys do you see make All-Star games in positions as diverse as 2B and Catcher?

So he was no Yogi Berra or Bench, well neither of those two stole 400 bases and was a first rate table setter...etc.

Say it with me...it's the Hall of FAME...as in really, really good over a long period of time belongs...it's not the Hall of Immortals...

And the Yaz thing...I am saying, no one said Yaz is not worthy cause he hit for a low average when he won a title etc...he didn't hit .400 but he beat out all his peers...just like Jones or Biggio beat out their peers...that's all it takes...to do that in a consistent basis over a period of time.

This is where we differ. When someone is consistent over a period of time, it makes him a definite compiler, but not necessarily a HOF.

I mean, Yaz won the triple crown for crying out loud. Did Biggio ever come close to that?

Biggio was never a GREAT player in my book.

But hey, the writers mainly agree with you- and that's why the HOF is becoming so watered down.

Re: Beltran, Wright Win Gold Gloves

Let's get back to Wright. I agree with Pundit-he is no Gold Glover.
