MetsBlog cites the Daily News as saying the Mets have interest in Rangers hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo. His contract is up at the end of the month and the Mets may have interest in bringing him aboard.

If they do, the likely switches would move Howard Johnson back to first base. Ricky Henderson would be gone.

Jaramillo was a candidate for the Mets managerial job a few years ago when Randolph was hired so I hope that's not an issue. Jaramillo is credited with being one of the finest hitting coaches in the game.

No matter the personal relationship between Minaya and Jaramillo, it appears the Rangers hitting coach will NOT be headed to Flushing. Minaya has told numerous reporters that he just couldn't go after Jaramillo after the fact he was one of the guys interviewed for the managing job along with Willie Randolph.

It would be odd to have the two on the same staff. Minaya says they plan to bring back Howard Johnson as the batting coach.
