Keith Hernandez aka idiot Who does this guy Keith Hernandez think he is? Did anyone hear what he said about the Padre's massage therapist Saturday night? I quote, "I wouldn't say that women belong in the kitchen but they don't belong in the dugout". Hernandez can be the next Jimmy the Greek or Al Campanis if he isn't careful. Here is the link. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/B/BBN_HERNANDEZ_FEMALE_TRAINER?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME& TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2006-04-23-20-56-59

Re: Keith Hernandez aka idiot Youre right Gotham he did appear in Seinfeld and anyone that is willing to help me move can be forgiven for what they say about women being in the dugout. I guess when you are the voice of the Mets, it can go to your head. Come to think of it though have you ever seen a woman in a dugout?

Re: Keith Hernandez aka idiot I was watching live when he said it and you knew he stepped in it when the words came out. His playbyplay guy, Gary Cohen (one of the best in the biz) tried to give him the opportunity to take it back or joke about it, but Keith didn't. He's from the old-school where women were not in sports. Tough to understand why he still feels that way but it's his opinion. LOL, later in the game Saturday, he read the rule about who was allowed in the dugout. Only two people from the trainers are allowed, then on Sunday he offered a prepared statement, it was silly.

Re: Keith Hernandez aka idiot Keith appeared on a local sports TV show yesterday (along with the female in question). He acknowledges he made stupid remarks about how females don't belong in dugouts. He himself has 3 daughters of his own and realizes he wronged there. However, he pushed the fact that man or woman, she shouldn't be in the dugout according to the MLB Rulebook. The rule states that only the head and assistant trainers are allowed in the dugout (no uniforms allowed). He questioned whether her status as a massage therapist qualifies her as a head/assistant trainer. He has a point.

Re: Keith Hernandez aka idiot This is so ridiculous, he was just registering surprise at seeing a woman in the dugout as it is not a typical occurrence. He then he went overboard in his attrempt to be affable with his condescending remarks: "I have always loved the ladies" or something to that extent. It was a childish, uninformed thing to say, but he apologized and it should be over. Instead he has to face an outlandish amount of media scrutiny for something that is simply inconsequential. Maybe there will be something positive to derive from this situation and Martha Burke will remove her pitched tent from the gates at Augusta.
