The Mets ended a five game losing streak (and possibility of being swept by the Nats) Wednesday night when they pounced on the Nationals, 8-4. Mike Pelfrey pitched a good game, going five innings and giving up three runs. David Wright earned his 100th RBI of the year in route to three on the night. Hobbled Moises Alou had three hits as well.
Jorge Sosa and Aaron Heilman pitched scoreless innings in relief. Billy Wagner gave up an unearned run.
Luck be a lady tonight as the Phillies lost to the Cardinals. So the Mets magic number (wins and Phillie losses until the Mets clinch the division) is now 9! The division lead is back up to 2 1/2 games.
The Mets now travel down south to Florida to play the Marlins for a four game set before ending the season next week at home.
