Pedro Martinez Starts at Shea

Pedro Martinez will make his pitching return to New York later today at Shea Stadium when he opposes Roy Oswalt and the Houston Astros. The Mets are on a pretty big win streak, winning seven of their last eight games. They'll try for the sweep of Houston.

Pedro threw 76 pitches in five innings of work last Monday in Cincinnati. He earned his first win in his 2007 debut.

Cool Re: Pedro Martinez Starts at Shea

Can you imagine the traffic around Shea and the New York roads today? You've got the Mets game, the US Open (right next door) AND the Jets game at the Meadowlands (many people have to pass Shea to get there).

You couldn't pay me enough to drive to one of these events today.

Re: Pedro Martinez Starts at Shea

Pedro kicks off his second start with a pair of outs then gives up a base hit. Facing Carlos Lee with a runner on.

Lee flies out to right. So Pedro starts off the game well.

Re: Pedro Martinez Starts at Shea

Pedro's return to Shea was a success. He pitched five innings of shutout ball, with four strike outs while giving up six hits. He's now 2-0.

Atta boy Pedro.
