Hernandez to DL, Matsui RETURNS

2B Anderson Hernandez is to be placed on the 15-day DL after tests uncovered he has a "bulging disc" in his back. He benched himself before yesterday's game after feeling tightness in his back during pre-game drills.

Kaz Matsui will be recalled and will make his 2006 season debut starting @ 2B against the Padres on Thursday evening.

Amazing, in the span of 48 hours, Met fans have gone from cloud 9 to talking about disaster. All I hope is that Matsui doesn't make a joke of himself and whenever they return home, he doesn't get boo'd ot of the building.

Re: Hernandez to DL, Matsui RETURNS

Kazuo Matsui did well in his season-opener. He kept up his streak at scoring a homer in his first at-bat in all his seasons. And best of all, it was an inside-the-park homerun!

Now let's just hope he doesn't become a serious liability in the field. He's a good hitter (when he doesn't chase the stuff in the dirt), but his fielding as been awful.

Re: Hernandez to DL, Matsui RETURNS

Well, he turned some nice plays last night in the Mets' 2-1 loss to the Padres. We will just have to wait and see if he is consistent in the field and more importantly at the plate.
