David Wright for MVP (updated)

The NY Mets third baseman should be the leading candidate for the National League MVP. Not only are his offensive numbers tremendous but his defense has improved a lot this year.

Going into play on 9/23, Wright's stats look like:

In 564 At Bats:
104 Runs
179 Hits
40 Doubles, 1 Triple
30 Home Runs
103 RBIs
90 BBs
31 Stolen Bases
.317/.412/.551

Not only is he an MVP, he's in the 30-30 club.

MVP! MVP! MVP! Anyone disagree?

Re: David Wright for MVP

According to MetsBlog, ESPN's Rob Neyer said if the Mets finish in first place, David Wright is a "lock" to win the NL MVP award.

Neyer wrote...
Quote:
" P.S. By all measures I can find -- both numbers and media buzz -- if the Mets finish in first place, David Wright is a lock in the National League. Book it."

Re: David Wright for MVP

David Wright is a humble guy when faced with possibly being the first Mets to win the MVP award. Here are some quotes from the third baseman:

Quote:
I take a lot more pride in having the respect of my teammates. I feel like if I have the respect of guys in this clubhouse, and they consider me a leader on and off the field, then that means more to me than the MVP any day.

There are guys with crazy, sick, ludicrous numbers in our game. Those are MVP-caliber players. I’m not one of those guys. If I’m a leader on this team, a guy who helps us win, that’s all I really care about. That’s all I really want.
In ESPN's fan voting for the MVP awards, David Wright may finally overtake Prince Fielder today.

Re: David Wright for MVP

MetsBlog puts David Wright's amazing season thus far into perspective...

Quote:
By the way, Wright is the only player in the National League who is batting over .300, with at least 25 HR, 30 stolen bases, 90 runs scored and 90 RBI.

He is also on pace to be the first player in the history of baseball to hit at least .300, with a .385 OBP, along with 30 HR, 35 SB, 110 runs scored, 110 RBI, and 35 doubles.

Thumbs up Re: David Wright for MVP

thats nice, you guys have one mvp candidate on your team...i mean i love david wright but, i truly truly hate everyone else on that team...Chase utley is better than wright and i believe if the phils get in either he or rollins will win the mvp.

Re: David Wright for MVP

Jimmy Rollins is probably the Phils best MVP candidate if they make it to the playoffs.

David Wright still has to be a top favorite though. Especially considering the Brewers falling out of the top spot in the Central which means Prince Fielder could lose some votes.

Cool Re: David Wright for MVP

Why is nobody mentioning Prince Fielder in this discussion. 50 dingers on a very overachieving Brewers team. He would get my vote.

Even if they don't make the playoffs?
