Mets Beat Atlanta The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves, 4-3. Pedro Martinez walked away with his 3rd win of the season, and his 200th win of his career. In a little over six innings of work he managed to strike out eight batters and give up Atlanta's only three runs of the ball game. Xavier Nady and Carlos Delgado each hit a homer and tallied up all the runs for the Mets. Paul Lo Duca had a great game too, where he went three hits in four at-bats. Billy Wagner recorded his fourth save of the season with two strikeouts in one inning. He ended the game by striking out former Met, Todd Pratt. It was a close game and the Mets ended up the "W" in the standings. Do you think the Mets are now contenders for the World Series, since they beat the dominant Atlanta Braves who stood in their way for the past few years?

Re: Mets Beat Atlanta Amazing how the scope of things can change in a few days. One day, the Mets win a game against the Braves and suddenly they're officially Series contenders. Then they drop two straight to Atlanta to lose the series. Oops. Hudson and Glavine put on a great show yesterday, and if you take the Zambrano game out of the equation, these two teams look pretty equal. Zambrano shows flashes that make you think he has all the potential in the world. Then he winds up giving up 7 runs in 5.0 innings, which is simply unacceptable for a team with pennant aspirations.

Re: Mets Beat Atlanta I went to the Hudson vs. Glavine game, yesterday. It was pretty boring until it started heating up in the ninth inning. The only player who really deserves blame for the loss is David Wright. He is one of baseball's best players, but looked just horrible yesterday. He gave up (what should have been) four errors and fell through trying to win the game and gain back respect from the fans.

Re: Mets Beat Atlanta Now Wagner's hurt and Betran is following. The Mets can beat the Braves all they want its only April. Well see when august and september rolls around when the usual Met meltdown occurs annually.

Re: Mets Beat Atlanta Unless there's a serious injury to a Pedro/Glavine/Delgado/Wright (godforbid), there's no reason to think the Mets will fall out of first. Ofcourse, you never know who gets hot when. Afterall, the Braves turned it on so late last year and flew to the playoffs.

Re: Mets Beat Atlanta Congrats to the NY Mets today on another fine win vs. the division rival Braves. If they can keep this up as the season progresses itll be clear that there will be a new team wholl be winning the NL East year after year. Perhaps there could be a changing of the guard in NYC as well? I remember 1985-1992 when a Yankee fan couldnt be found...not even here in the Bronx! Who knows?
