Tom Glavine has kept the door open for another season with the Mets, and another year of long workouts, cross-country flights and hotel rooms. Glavine earned his 300th victory last night, but considering the run support he's received this season, he should have already passed the milestone. That tells his father, Fred, that his future Hall-of-Fame son is still pitching well, which could be the lure for another season. "There's a lot to this job that only he sees,'' Fred Glavine said. "There's the hard work, being away from his kids, the time alone. "We will talk about that after the season. I would like to see him come back for another year, but I won't advise him on what to do. -- Journal News

Interesting. He's been okay, but nothing spectacular this season. Would the Mets want him back in 2008?

It depends on who you ask, some believe he'll call it a career at the end of the year. I don't see why the Mets wouldn't welcome him back if he wanted to remain in NY.

On the contract front, he has one year left but it's an option year. It's guaranteed if he reaches 160 IP this year. If it is guaranteed, Glavine can decline it. The Mets can also buy out the last year for $3 mil (otherwise, Glavine would make $9 mil).

Right now, he has 144 IP, so he will reach that stat that will guarantee his deal next year.

I disagree with you there Vince. If he wants to, there's no reason why he couldn't pitch next year. He's still doing well and it's not like he's being hammered and not pitching competitive baseball.
