Pedro Martinez Rehab Assignment

Pedro Martinez told reporters today the plan is for him to begin his rehab assignment (which he must return to the majors after 30 days) on Wednesday night for the Single-A St. Lucie Mets.

Afterwards, he would probably move up to the Double-A Binghampton Mets and Triple-A New Orleans.

Pending no setbacks, Pedro is likely looking at returning the last week of August.

do you think he'll come back with his usual nasty stuff on the mound?

Re: Pedro Martinez Rehab Assignment

I haven't seen him pitch at all yet but I assume if he makes it through his rehab assignments successfully and healthy, he should be fine.

It's not like he had to throw 95 before surgery either, so I'm somewhat confident he can be effective in the majors.

Re: Pedro Martinez Rehab Assignment

Pedro Martinez will be making his first rehab start later today for Single-A St. Lucie. He's expected to only throw about 45 pitches.

SNY will lengthen their Mets pre-game show to show highlights from Pedro's outing.

I disagree. I can't shake the feeling that he's going to wind up as broken down as Randy Johnson.

You and the rest of Mets nation lol. Nobody expects him to be dominant 1999 Pedro but at least myself, I think he can come back and pitch well using his off-speed stuff to compliment his high 80s fastball.

But we'll find out in due time.

Re: Pedro Martinez Rehab Assignment

It's raining down in St. Lucie and the game has been rained out. No start for Pedro tonight.

No word from the Mets yet on when he will start and if it will be for St. Lucie.

Re: Pedro Martinez Rehab Assignment

The NY Times has a great article on Pedro tonight. He threw a simulated game, lasting over 5 innings and 67 pitches.

Quote:
An hour after the game, he said he felt great without even icing his arm and that he probably could have gone another inning. Still, he said, he was eager to see if he felt as well on Friday and Saturday.

His next start will probably be Tuesday or Wednesday in a Florida State League game for the Mets’ Port St. Lucie team.

I'm still holding onto hope that he never throws another Major League pitch.

What's your beef with Pedro? Still have a grudge from his Bostonian days?

It sounds like he's coming back stronger than ever. And frankly, if he does, his presence on the ball club will be more important than any possible deadline acquisition.

Re: Pedro Martinez Rehab Assignment

I can't stand him and hope he never plays again. With any luck, that will be the case.
